The three commonly recognized types are direct lobbying, grassroots lobbying, and indirect or public-focused lobbying. Direct lobbying involves communicating with legislators, regulators, or government officials. Grassroots lobbying mobilizes communities and stakeholders to contact decision-makers. Indirect approaches use public affairs, media, coalition building, and public opinion to create broader support for a policy position. Galvanize Strategies can integrate these methods into coordinated advocacy campaigns.
